A forever home for an active family, one street back from the water. The floor plan was already set, so my work started everywhere the architecture stopped. Every finish, the siding and exterior color, where the windows landed, and the landscape they look out on.

There is a canyon behind this house, and it should be the loudest thing in the room. So the interior stays quiet and clean, and the deep cherry beams and floors stay right where they were. Restraint, on purpose.

Slatted oak millwork, black steel, and pale floors that keep the light moving. The stair sits in the middle of the plan and carries that light up through the house instead of blocking it.

The name is the palette. Warm rose and deep emerald, framed in cream and wood so both get to be bold. The kitchen came out from behind its wall, and a solid arched door was milled just across the border.

True Modern Farmhouse

Whole-Home Renovation and Addition

Farmhouse style is everywhere now, and most of it is costume. This one was the real thing, an early 1900s ranch house on land next to Mesa Verde. I took the front of the house off and built back a porch and a two story entry, so the rooms that used to feel like a cave now hold the whole vista.

A retired couple who wanted calm, not fuss, on a remote piece of high desert. Terracotta clay, natural stone, and neutral paint, letting the raw material do the talking. The addition is a primary suite with big windows and a rooftop landing, because what they really wanted was coffee up there at sunrise.

Lobby, cafe, and gym for a life sciences campus. The structural ceiling stays exposed and honest, with warm faceted timber forms dropped below it so a very technical building still feels like somewhere you would want to sit down.

A studio has about four seconds to make you feel calm. White trusses left open overhead, warm wood underfoot, rattan and soft terracotta, and a wall of living moss at the front desk.

A small salon that had to feel like an event. Charcoal walls, mirrored stations lit from both sides, blush velvet, and enough sparkle overhead that a standing appointment feels like somewhere you chose to be.

Everything out front is bright and white and easy to move through, cubbies, check in, out the door to the bikes. All the intensity is saved for the room where you actually work, which goes red the moment class starts.

Before K2Design, I built my foundation at some of the most respected architecture and design firms in the country, including Gensler and Perkins & Will. My work spanned large-scale commercial and workplace design, from the San Diego International Airport expansion and CBRE's offices at UTC to workplace strategy for Caterpillar's global headquarters in Peoria.

That work is where the discipline behind the warmth comes from. Running complex projects, coordinating large teams and trades, and holding a single design vision from first concept through construction. I carried all of it into K2Design, and it's the backbone of every commercial project I take on now.
